This is a type of opal that exhibits a green color due to the presence of nickel. It is a relatively soft stone, with a Mohs hardness of 5.5-6.5, and is typically opaque or translucent with a waxy to vitreous luster. Green Opal is formed through the precipitation of silica from solutions in volcanic rocks, and can be found in a range of locations around the world, including Madagascar, Ethiopia, Peru, and Australia although, each locality has their own distinct features.
